CB Cellars 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Central Coast
San Francisco winemaker - CB Cellars
ABOUT THE LABEL
I try to give each of my wines it's own 'personality' that both seems fitting to the wine in some way, and has a unique quality to it. For the Cab I had fallen in love with the distinct minerality that the fruit was showing right off the vine. This had a lot to do with the soil type it was planted on (it's from a vineyard in Gilroy, just outside of the Santa Cruz Mountain ava). Problem was that I couldn't call it Farallon, after the plate, or Calera, after the limestone, so I dug a bit deeper and found that the rock complex is called 'The Franciscan Complex' - which felt like the perfect name for a wine made in San Francisco as well. From there I knew I wanted the label to be of Sutro Tower because I've always felt that that was a more fitting landmark for San Francisco. When you're in the city it tends to be visible from almost every neighborhood. I decided to take a picture of the tower from Sanchez st and 21st st, part of my regular commute from the winery to my day job. From there I did the same heavy manipulation on the photo, in photoshop, to make it look like an imprint/stamp just as with 'Thirteen-B' (a photo of a rotor from an RX-7).
